Slack Etiquette 101: The Unspoken Rules of Workplace Reacts

Slack is where work happens, but it's also a minefield of passive-aggressive communication. One wrong emoji reaction and your coworker thinks you hate them.
The 'Eyes' π Dilemma
What does the π reaction mean?
1. "I am looking at this." (Neutral)
2. "I see this mess you made." (Judgmental)
3. "Interesting drama..." (Gossip)
Rule: Use it for "I'm reviewing your request." Avoid it on sensitive apologies.
The Passive-Aggressive Thumbs Up π
To Gen Z, the Thumbs Up π is rude. It feels like "K." or "Dismissed."
To Boomers, it just means "Okay."
Better Alternative: Use the Checkmark β ("Done") or the Raised Hands π ("Great job").
Acknowledging Receipts (β vs π)
When your boss posts an update, you *must* react. It proves you read it.
- β = Task completed.
- β = Blocking issue.
- π₯ = Exciting news.
Custom Emojis & Culture Building
The best Slack workspaces have custom emojis.
- :this: (Pointing up) = "I agree."
- :dumpster-fire: = "This project is a mess."
- :party-parrot: = "Celebration!"
Tip: If you are angry, don't use emojis. Use words.
